The Vault Standard: A Digital Operating Model for Alternative Investments

Private markets do not need another portal. They need a shared operating record that can carry a product from mandate to maturity.

A category, not a feature

Alternative investments are still operated as a sequence of documents. The mandate lives in a term sheet, eligibility in a subscription booklet, cash movements in a spreadsheet, and reporting in a data room that nobody quite trusts. Each new product rebuilds that stack.

A vault, in the AltVaults sense, is not a yield product and not a token by default. It is a compliant, programmable wrapper: one operating record that binds legal structure, investor eligibility, capital-flow rules, reporting and liquidity policy.

The legal documents remain authoritative. The vault is how the institution operates them.

What the operating record must hold

An operating record is useful only if it is specific. It should know who may subscribe, on what cadence capital is accepted, how a valuation is produced, when a notice must go out, and what happens when a redemption request exceeds available cash.

That is a different object from a CRM contact, a cap table or a PDF archive. It is closer to the constitution of the product, expressed so that administrators, distributors and investors can work from the same version.

Discipline before distribution

Distribution is the last mile, not the first. A vault that cannot explain its liquidity, its eligibility and its valuation has no business being placed on a wealth platform. The standard starts with structure.

AltVaults is built around that sequence: structure, configure, verify, subscribe, allocate, operate, report, distribute, and only then transfer or redeem. Skipping a step does not make the product more modern. It makes it opaque.

Take the framework into a briefing.
